fashion forward friday

my printer/scanner is on the fritz so i've had to resort to photos i have on my computer/email. a few months ago my dad reconnected with an old friend who shared some photos he had from the 70s. i don't remember when this was taken but it's me with his two sons. it's crazy there are pictures of me out there that i have never seen and could possibly never see.

i was very fashion forward for a toddler. pairing stripes with plaid and a sundress. i guess i have my mom to thank for that.

michael is #1

yes, this was a nine-year-olds tribute to the king of pop. a few months ago i picked up my old sticker album from my parents house and was surprised when flipping through that this page existed. actually, not too surprised, i was quite the fan. still am. and yes, a few tears were shed upon his passing.

r.i.p. michael.

25 things

Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you.

(moved this over from facebook where i did all the tagging, play along if you'd like)

1. i was born in taegu, korea and moved to (in order) fort bragg, nc; camp zama, japan; fort hood, tx; seoul, korea; pusan, korea; fort bragg, nc; berlin, germany; augsburg, germany; carbondale, il; springfield, il and boone, nc.

2. i went to four different high schools

3. most of my childhood memories are associated with trauma, not necessarily my own. the biggest, being electrocuted when i four. hair barrettes and electrical sockets don't mix. i got to fly in a helicopter though.

4. i have a swatch watch collection.

5. in the summer i don't wear socks and in the winter 90% of the socks i wear are knee highs.

6. i was a carnie. i sold tacos and wine coolers at fests in germany and italy.

7. tooth stories: when i was in 6th grade i had surgery to correct an upside-down tooth. it didn't live much longer afterwards. i chipped my front tooth the summer before my senior year. i got braces when i was 30.

8. i fell between a train and platform that put a dent in my shin, which i still have 15 years later and will have the rest of my life. luckily the backpack i was wearing kept me from falling down to the track.

9. i haven't taken out my tragus piercings since i got them 16 years ago.

10. i have a 6ft asian brother.

11. i was in a car that was hit by a streetcar on senior skip day. thanks aly!

12. the first time i kissed aaron i as standing on milk crate on his front porch. which were abundant (milk crates) at the time thanks to ben alexander.

13. i walked 2 miles to get my first tattoo at lady hawke ink in 1994. a flower band on my right arm. i've gotten 9 more since then.

14. i bungee jumped at a volksfest with a friend, kirsten, when i was 18.

15. i went to mardi gras with all my college roommates in a rented conversion van that we slept in down by the river...nah, it was a parking garage.

16. i dislike fruit flavored sodas and despise root beer.

18. i'm crafty.

19. all my jewelry is silver in color

walkin to dfeet

Aaron's mother, Donna, passed away from ALS in 2000. Her strength, courage and faith throughout her illness served as an inspiration to all who knew her. We are participating in this event to honor Donna and hopefully to help raise awareness of this debilitating disease.

If you'd like to donate, walk or learn more about ALS click here.

halloween shebang

unfortunately, i don't remember what year this was. we had a little lag time where we didn't dress up and this falls within that 2002-2004 block. yes, that's "miss aaron" striking her best pose. although i think she went by another name that evening. roxie seems to come to mind.

we didn't get a photo together this year. my costumes always seem to pale in comparison to aaron's. he definitely goes above and beyond with a little help from me. i always have more fun dressing him then myself (see richard simmons in previous post). this particular year i was a "roller girl" scooting around on skates all evening. i do remember giving the shorts away to a co-worker for her 12 year-old daughter. she came back the next day and told me they fit her 6 year-old. yes, they were that tight!

i'm going to go ahead and post the rest of our halloween photos. can you tell i'm in dress-up sorta mood and contemplating whether or not to host a party this year because of it?

halloween 2005, spastic child in footed pjs and the asian boy george.

halloween 2006, devil woman and bat girl. this year my bachlorette party took place the weekend of halloween. everyone dressed up and we hit up the landing in st. louis. this is one of my favorite photos from the evening.

in honor of moms

thought i'd give a quick shout out to our moms today. i randomly pulled out two photos from our albums. it's crazy how similar they are. both beach/water scenes and both mom's with humongous sunglasses! love you, mom! miss you, donna!

10+

a memento from our first official date. i'm not too big on remembering actual dates. don't ask when our first kiss was or the moment we realized we were meant for each other. let's just make it easy on everyone and say april 15th was the day of everything!

not that we planned a special outing to celebrate the occasion. but we did venture down to hickory to watch a little minor league baseball last night. a little chilly, a very sparse crowd, and tons of cheesy activities to occupy our time. we were definitely entertained during the error-ridden game. the hickory crawdads lost to the lexington legends, 4-6. did i mention it was "all-you-can-eat" night. aaron took full advantage: two hot dogs, a hamburger, nachos, french fries, popcorn and two large sodas. and i was pretty much paying for it later!

big hair, class of 1993

this evening dana bombarded my cell with old photos from high school. all of them were new to me. and most of them should have been burned instead of shared. i don't think my hair could have gotten any bigger. embarrassed? no. funny? hell yeah! now it's my turn. we're supposed to get snow tonight and tomorrow. know what i'll be doing. high school friends beware.

memory lane

with the arrival of adobe creative suite, i have deemed it necessary to clear off hard drive space. i will be moving all 3000 photos to disk. before doing so, i'm gonna post a few photos that are blogworthy. most are from our time in springfield. only 3000? remember this time last year, we had a major malfunction with the macbook. i lost the equivalent plus some. now on to the photos.
